Ilmmünster Coat of Arms

Shield Azure two croziers Argent in saltire, superimposed by a church tower issuant Or with stepped gable.
The tower is symbolising the local Benedictine abbey, which had been founded in the 8th century. Its tower is still a landmark. The abbey had been also the most important manorial lord until the 15th century. In 1495 Duke Albrecht of Bayern transferred the local district (Bavarian: Hofmark) under the control of the Convent of the Cathedral of Our Lady in München. The croziers are symbolising Ilmmünster as an ecclesiastical possession until 1803. The tinctures blue and silver are stressing the close relationships between the village and the Wittelsbach kin since the 12th century.
