Rinteln Coat of Arms

Shield Gules with base wavy of Azure and Argent, a castle Argent with two towers with cone roofs and a gate lodge, charged with an inescutcheon Gules displaying a nettle leaf Argent.
Meaning:
The inescutcheon displays the family arms of the Counts of Schaumburg. Rinteln gained city rights in 1239 from Count Adolf IV of Schaumburg-Holstein. The existence of a seal is proven since 1281, only displaying a shield charged with a nettle leaf. Castle and base wavy, representing Weser River, were added later. The shape of the castle changed several times.
The current arms were approved in 1939.
