Mengen Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale; at dexter Gules a sinister facing lion rampant Or, standing on a triplemount Vert issuant from base; at sinister Argent a vaxing crescent Gules with face looking to a 6-point star Gules.
Meaning:
Mengen gained city rights in 1276 by German King Rudolf I. Prints of the first seal existed since 1281, displaying the lion and a vaning crescent. The lion is taken from the family arms of Habsburg,as Mengen has been an Austrian dominion until 1805. Crescent and star had been local symbols. The appear as the only arms of the city in armourials from the 16th century. The current pattern developed since the 18th century on local seals
