Calbe (Saale) City

Calbe (Saale) was a city in former Schönebeck county. It is not to be confused with Kalbe (Milde) which is also in Saxony-Anhalt, but in Salzwedel County. The arms in my image are based on the arms at the city website. The calf (German Kalb) on the coat-of-arms is canting.
Saale is a river, one of the main tributaries of the Elbe. It starts in Upper Franconia and goes to the Elbe north of Magdeburg. There is another river with the same name in Lower Franconia which is usually called Fränkische Saale for distinction.

Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, a castle Argent, consisting of two towers Argent with cone roofs, connected by a parapet walk of the same and, issuant from base an embattled wall Argent masoned Sable, the parapet walk has a hipped roof, crowned by a turret, between the towers Or - on former arms Azure - a calf statant guardant Gules armed Sable.
The oldest known seal of the city from 1289 already displays a building and a canting calf. The building probably indicates the development as a city in the 12th century. During the centuries the design of the building as well as the colours have changed, but the basic pattern remained the same.
