The village was ruled by the brotherhood of the Knights of St. Burkard in Würzburg, which established a local constitution in 1689. The fleur-de-lis had been the symbol of the brotherhood. Flail and mattocks had been the typical weapons of the rebellious farmers in 1525, commanded by Götz of Berlichingen.
