Limbach-Oberfrohna Coat of Arms

Shield parted per bend sinister of Gules and Vert, in centre charged with a cogwheel Argent, superimposed by a caduceus Or in pale, a needle Argent in bend and a metal blank of the same in bend sinister, over all a bendlet sinister parted of Vert and Argent.
Limbach belonged to the Margraviate of Meißen since 1329 and was first mentioned in 1346. The two settlements Dorotheenberg and Helenenberg were added to the village and in 1795. Limbach was elevated to a market town. At the beginning of the 18th century Johann Esche constructed a machine for the production of silk stockings. In 1754 31 machines existed and in 1765 there worked 80 master craftsmen. A guild of stocking makers was established in 1785. Due to the beginning of industrialisation since 1852 Limbach became a hot spot of the Saxon textiles industries. In 1856 the production of textiles machine construction was started. Limbach gained city rights in 1883. The neighbouring village of Oberfrohna was first mentioned in 1415. It also became a place of the production of stockings, gloves and knitwear. Oberfrohna gained city rights in 1935 and was untied with Limbach in 1950. Both entities had coalesced long before by area and economy. Between 1946 and 1949 Heinrich Mauersberger invented Malimo, a special kind of cloth. The caduceus had been Argent at least until 1989. The greater arms of Limbach displayed the arms in a Baroque shield fimbriated Or and surrounded by foliage Vert, fixed at top by a mural crown Or crested with a demi-lion of the same tongued Gules, and at bottom by a scroll Or with an inscription in black initials "SUCHET DER STADT BESTES" (= look for the best of the city) and "1883" in centre. The caduceus is representing trade, the cogwheel machine production, needle and metal blank the production of stockings. The bendlet sinister displays the colours of Sachsen.

The banner is used without approval. The arms were approved in 1883 for Limbach and were adopted by the local council on 1 January 1950 for the united city.
