Issue 16 (14 April 2001) of the German weekly news magazine Der Spiegel, p. 161, showed this picture of German Football fans in Dortmund waving several flags, especially flags of their club Borussia Dortmund.
Marcus Schmöger, 11 May 2001

The club is playing in the German Bundesliga and has gained several national championships and, as far as I know, it won at least once the Eurocup of National Champions and its successor the Champions League. I think today there exist posher versions of that flag as chequered flags. The original flag however is a horizontal yellow over black bicolour showing the clubs logo in its centre. The logo is a yellow roundel, edged by a narrow black and another narrow yellow circle. In the logo is a black inscription "BVB 09", meaning "Ballspielverein Borussia von 1909". The "V" is shifted to the top, the "09" is shifted to the bottom. The colours are based on the clubs traditional sports dress, yellow shirts and black trousers.
