Symbols of Serón

The flag and arms of Serón, adopted on 28 April 1989 by the Municipal Council and validated on 8 March 1991 by the Royal Academy of History, are prescribed by Decree No. 159, adopted on 30 July 1991 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 27 September 1991 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 86, pp. 8,563-8,564 (text). This was confirmed by a Decree adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular flag in proportions 11:18, tierced at hoist [1:2], red at hoist and white at fly, charged with a two-towered yellow castle outlined in black placed in the middle of the white part of the flag.
Coat of arms: Per fess, 1. Azure a two-towered castle [masoned and port and windows sable] or over waves [argent] surrounded by two cauldrons checky or and sable, 2a. Or a hammer and a sledgehammer sable crossed per saltire, 2b. Gules a holy oak or. Grafted in base argent a pomegranate proper. The shield surmounted by a Royal Spanish crown.

The castle recalls the local fortress while the waves represent river Almanzora. The cauldrons comes from the arms of Diego Pacheco, Marquis de Villena, once lord of the town. The tools are the symbol of iron mining. The oak symbolizes the use of acorns by the local meat industry, as well as the forest resources of the Sierra de los Filabres. The pomegranate (granada) recalls that Serón belonged to the old Kingdom of Granada.
