The municipality of Puebla de Almenara (345 inhabitants in 2018 vs. 1,632 in1940; 3,772 ha) is located 100 km south-west of Cuenca.

Symbols of Puebla de Almenara

The flag and arms of Puebla de Almenara are prescribed by Decree No. 19, issued on 23 February 1988 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 1 March 1988 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 9, p. 407 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: In a panel horizontally divided in the middle including a quadrangle, the upper part, white and charged at hoist with a Cross of Saint James, the lower part, red. In the reverse, charged in the center with the coat of arms of the municipality.
Coat of arms: Argent a burning tower and part of walls gules port and window azure surmounted by the anagram of Mary in letters azure and surrounded dexter by a Cross of Saint James gules. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

The arms feature the ruined fortress that overlooks the village. Erected in the 13th-14th centuries on the remains of a former fort, the castle was probably completed by the Mendoza. The castle was owned in the 16th century by Ana de Mendoza y de la Cerda, Princess of Éboli, who had inherited it from her father, Diego Hurtado de Mendoza.
