Introduction

Seikai no Senki [Banner of the Stars] was a 1999-2005 anime series. It is an epic-scale space opera, and is based on a series of SF novels. It is also mildly controversial, as the four major adversaries bear a distinct resemblance to the Allied powers of WWII, and the Empire resembles a highly sanitized Axis. The creator has however dismissed charges of historical revisionism, saying that he has merely drawn an interesting scenario from history.

United Mankind

In the series, the UM is the most powerful of four galactic powers allied against the Human-Abh Empire. The United Mankind flag shows up hanging in the office of the planetary governor of Aptic, and is an odd design indeed; dark blue, with a sawtoothed border of four spikes on top and three at the side, and golden chevrons at the corners. There is also a central device, probably either a sun with planets or a planet with moons. (Or a nucleus with electrons, but that's not very likely.)

Empire

The titular "banner of the stars" is the Empire's flag, which has yet to be depicted onscreen. Eugene Ipavec, 23 february 2006
