Introduction: The Manchester City Football Club(MCFC)

The Manchester City Football Club, not to be confused with the Manchester Union Football Club, competes in the top level of English football in the Premier League. Based today in Greater Manchester it was first founded in about 1880 as a church team known then as the Saint Mark's Football Club (West Gorton) and joined the Ardwick Association in 1887. It changed its name 126 years ago to Manchester City in 1894. The club's home stadium is the City of Manchester Grounds in east Manchester, to which it moved in 2003, having played at the Maine Road Grounds since 1923. The club adopted their well-known sky blue home shirts in 1894. Known to its fans as simply "City" (or Cityzens, Man City, The Citizens, or the The Sky Blues), the club has won an incredible amount of titles, championships, and trophies in its 140 years of existence. Most recently, in 2019, Manchester City won four trophies, completing an unprecedented sweep of all domestic trophies in England and becoming the first English men's team to win what is known as the domestic treble.

It should be mentioned that the Manchester City FC is affiliated with the Manchester City Women's Football Club (MCWFC), formerly the Manchester City Ladies FC, who are a professional English women's football team. The women are also based in Manchester and play in the English Football Association Women's Super League (FA WSLFA).

This large wall banner announces that the Manchester City Football team has existed "Since 1884". It's a bit large to attempt to wave it at a game.

Manchester City FC Fan Flags

There are a wide variety of Manchester City fan flags available in a wide variety of designs, both official and un-official available for Sky Blue fans. Below are some of the more popular:

As well as being a Manchester City FC flag, this is also a Union Flag variant, in that the red is replaced by a sort of light blue, matching the colour of their shirts. The football club's coat of arms is superimposed upon the middle of the flag. This flag was sold [but no longer] at the Manchester City's official web site.

This Manchester City fan flag is reported in two blues; Navy Blue and Sky Blue. It comes in a variety of sizes and shapes. Besides normal rectangular shapes, smaller square versions of these flags have been seen waved in the stands by enthusiastic Manchester football fans. The M.C.F.C. initials naturally stands for "Manchester City Football Club" and the Latin Superbia In Proelia means "Pride in battles". Above the eagle and shield are three stars, which are purely decorative.
