Presentation of Tribunj

The municipality of Tribunj (1,536 inhabitants in 2011) is located some 30 km north of Šibenik, on the coast. The municipality was formed in 2006 by separation from the Town of Vodice.
The medieval fort of Jurjevgrad was built on the coast on the St. Nicholas hill; already in the 15th century, the settlement was formed on a small island just off the coast, connected to it with a bridge.

Flag of Tribunj

The symbolss of Tribunj are prescribed by Statutory Decision Statutarna odluka o opisu i uporabi grba i zastave Općine Tribunj, adopted on 16 October 2014 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 13 November 2014 in the County official gazette Službeni vjesnik Šibensko-kninske županije, No. 12 (text).

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.

The flag is described in Article 10 of the Statutory Decision as follows:

The flag of the Municipality is single-coloured, dark blue, dimensioned with proportions of length to width of 2:1, in accordance with legal prescriptions. In the centre of the flag, at the crossing point of the diagonals, there is the Municipality coat of arms on both sides, edged with a golden/yellow outline.

On 25 January 2008, the municipality launched a 90-day contest for the design of the symbols (text). The contest was published on 13 February 2008 in the Croatian official gazette Narodne Novine, No. 18.
Decision Odluka o imenovanju Povjerenstva za utvrdivanje grba, zastave i loga Općine Tribunj, adopted on 11 August 2008 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 12 August 2008 in the County official gazette Službeni vjesnik Šibensko-kninske županije, No. 8 (
text), set up a commission to determine the coat of arms, flag and logo.
The contest was eventually invalidated by a Decision (text) adopted on 4 February 2009 by the Municipality Assembly; presumably, no satisfactory design was submitted.

Coat of arms of Tribunj

The coat of arms is described in Article 8 of the Statutory Decision as follows:

The coat of arms of the Municipality of Tribunj is a semi-circular shield in blue, in the shield chief a green olive branch with yellow-golden fruit, below, in a wooden crate white silver fish (5).

Mayor Damir Pipilac explained that the intention was to present fishing and olive industry as symbols of Tribunj. The olive branch has golden fruit, symbolizing pure golden olive oil, while the wooden crate filled with fish stands for organized fishing industry. The abundance of fish in the crate, of course, symbolizes welfare. The blue background was chosen to represent the sea [Šibenski Portal, 29 October 2014].
The number of fish may represent the villages of the community. Although it is today counted as a single settlement, Tribunj had once four more settlements around.

The ceremonial flag is described in Article 10 of the Statutory Decision. It is, basically, a dark blue triangularly ending gonfalon with a golden fringe along the bottom, with the coat of arms in the centre, above the municipality name in an arc and a line, and below an olive and a grapevine branch.
