Presentation of Postira

Postira is located in the very centre of the Brac island, towards its northern coast. Population is 1,553 according to the 2001 census, 1,375 in the village of Postira proper. The main industry is, like everywhere else on the Adriatic coast, tourism, but Postira also has the famous canned fish factory Sardina, today mostly exporting tuna to Japan. A traditional craft is stone masonry.

Flag of Postira

The symbols of Postira are described in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Postira, adopted on 13 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 17 July 2009 in the Municipality official gazette Slubeni glasnik Općine Postira, No. 3.
The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company from Rijeka. The images shown on this page were drawn after documents kindly communicated by the municipal administration.

The flag (photo, no longer online) is in proportions 1:2, blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

Coat of arms of Postira

The coat of arms is "Azure on a wavy barruly base azure and argent a three-master sailboat maroon with sails or in front of a fortified town argent on a high rock vert issuant from sinister".
The arms are, probably, based on some historical seal depicting a merchant ship in front of the symbolical representation of the town.

Ceremonial flag of Postira

Ceremonial of Postira, left, as used, right, after the drawing communicated by the municipal administration - Images by Željko Heimer, 14 April 2013

The ceremonial flag (photo) is a blue gonfalon ending with three triangularly ending tails with tassels and with golden ornaments in them, the coat of arms in the middle and the name of the municipality above.
The flag shown on the drawing communicated by the municipal administration is of the same general design, but with significant differences. The drawing features a "standardized" wreath of olive and vine and, beneath them, two golden fishes swimming horizontally away from each other. The actual flag features two very stylized ornaments of vine and (olive?) in the outer tails and the two silver fishes interlaced and addorsed in the central tail.
