Ceremonial flag; image by Zachary Harden, 1 May 2023

Located in Ikoma City Nara Prefecture and established in 1991. The institute flag has sky blue background with a green, blue and red logo mark. A ceremonial flag is also in use. The flag design was created by Tsuyoshi Fujiwara, formerly of the Planning and Public Relations Section of the General Affairs Division. The three triangles in the center of the logo mark represent the three mountains of Yamato (Mt. Kagu, Mt. Unebi, and Mt. Miminashi) mentioned in the Manyoshu(the oldest extant collection of Japanese poetry) and the three research fields (information science, bioscience, and materials science) of the university's cutting-edge science and technology. It is a wish that the university will make a great leap forward internationally by transmitting information on cutting-edge "Science" and "Technology" from the ancient capital of Nara to the world high in the sky.
