Located in Okayama City Okayama Prefecture and established in 1949. The flag has blue background charged with the university white emblem and written horizontally in white the university name in English and Kanji characters. The emblem was created as part of the university's 50th anniversary commemorative project after an open competition for designs. The emblem was designed by Toshikazu Miyazaki, art designer, and Yoshimasa Hashigaya, professor of the Faculty of Education, art director. The emblem is formed from "O" for Okayama and "U" for University, expressing the image of Okayama University, which, like a bird, is flapping its wings and shining brightly toward the future. The Okayama University began using the emblem in May 1999, and in April 2012, it became the official university emblem.

There also seems to be a variant used by the university where the Japanese name is removed from the bottom of the logo.
