Located in Chiyoda City Tokyo and established in 1928. The embroidered ceremonial flag has dark red background with a gold and silver emblem and vertically written gold kanji university name with gold fringe. The university emblem is in the form of an eagle flapping its wings in the light of truth, representing the essence and ideals of Sophia University. The letters LV in the center are the initials of the university's motto, "Light of Truth," Lux Veritatis in Latin. Jochi University has been known abroad as Sophia University, which is derived from the Greek word ΣΟΦΙΑ, meaning "the highest wisdom to elevate people to desirable human qualities. This wisdom is the ultimate thing that the university seeks to impart to its students, and it is the reason for the name of the university, SOPHIA.
