The Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) is a public university
located in Thyolo in southern Malawi, 27 km east of the country's commercial
centre of Blantyre. It was established on 17 December 2012 and has four
schools/faculties, namely the Malawi Institute of Technology, the Ndata School of
Climate and Earth Sciences, the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Bingu School
of Culture and Heritage.

Malawi University of Science and Technology flag
As part of enhancing its brand, the Malawi University of Science and Technology launched a flag designing competition in February 2015. The proposed flag design should depict the University’s corporate colours, vision, mission and aspirations. The prize for winning design was MWK150,000, with the second and third best entries getting consolation prizes of K75,000 and K50,000 respectively. The deadline for submission of entries was 27 February 2015, with the winner to be decided by a panel of judges based on design simplicity and symbolism.
The winners were announced by the University Registrar, Dr Tarsizius Nampota, at a ceremony in September 2016. Dr Nampota said the winning designs were subjected to a stringent assessment process, firstly by a special committee which trimmed the over 50 entrants to eight. The short-listed designs were then trimmed to four by the University Management. The MUST Council then selected the top three entries from the pool of four. The winning design was by Eric Nyekanyeka which won him the top prize, with the runners-up being Qina Jere and Alex Chilembwe.

The winning design comprises
eight alternating equal horizontal stripes of light blue and grey with the
university emblem in the centre, surrounded by a white ring with a thin
outer fimbriation in grey and an inner thin fimbration in green.
