Maritime Carriers New Zealand Ltd. Formed 1971 as a New Zealand subsidiary of
the Netherlands operator Tsvi Rosenfeld, it announced its withdrawal from
shipping in 1982. The flag was green with a white diamond throughout bearing the
black letters "MC" from The Log 11/1988 and Sea Breezes 6/1979.

McGregor Steam Ship Co. Operated 1889-1905 with The Log 2/1986 giving a red flag
with a white horizontal band bearing the blue letters "MSSCo".

McKay Shipping Ltd. Formed in 1977 it is primarily a shipping agent though it
has been involved in a couple of ship owning consortiums. In 1986 I recorded
their flag as being a vertical triband of red, white and blue with on the white
an "M" of white, red and blue outlined black. Although the basic shape of the
"M" remains unchanged on subsequent logos, the colouring has with the wavy lines
being placed below the letter etc., so this flag, which is only based on a
written record, is probably well replaced.

Milburn New Zealand Ltd, Cement makers with origins back to Milburn Lime & Cement Co. Ltd. formed in 1888 which merged in 1963 with New Zealand Cement Holdings Ltd. to form New Zealand Cement Holdings Ltd. which changed its name in 1988 to Milburn New Zealand Ltd. From 1967 they operated their own ships for coastal transhipment and as Milburn New Zealand Ltd. flew a blue flag with a white annulet enclosing a white centre but broken by a horizontal band of the field which was edged black to form a panel on which was shown the yellow legend "MILBURN" whilst the annulet bore the blue inscription of "PORTLAND" [upper arc] and "CEMENT" [lower arc] being shown by The Log 11/1994. In 2002 it became Holcim (New Zealand) Ltd. as part of the international group which had controlled the company since 1977. No flag has been seen being flown by the ships since.

Another flag which has been associated with Milburn is that given by The Log
5/1986 for Tunnel Portland Cement Co. of white and red diagonal quarters bearing
a green "T" which was flown by the new vessel
"Westport" when she made her delivery voyage in 1988 and is the ownership
under which the voyage was made, probably being connected with the UK firm of
Tunnel Portland Cement Co. Ltd. in whom Holcim had an interest with tax
advantages in being built for a UK owner.
