Coat of arms

Shield Argent, a horse forcene Sable, flanked by embowed branches Vert tied Gules - wheat at dexter fruited Or and olive at sinister fruited Sable, in central chief a fleur-de-lis Azure. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black capitals: "FREGUESIA DE ALTER DO CHÃO".
Meaning:
The lily is an attribute of Our Lady of Assumption, the local patron saint.
