It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain white field.

Shield Gules, a labarum, consisting of a white flag with a throughout red cross, fixed at a sinister bendy cross staff Or; in chief an inescutcheon Argent, charged with five quinas ordered per cross; surrounded by five fragments of a chain Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "S. JOÃO BAPTISTA - CAMPO MAIOR".
Meaning:
The labarum is an attribute of St. John the Baptist, name giver of the commune.

São João Baptista is one of the three communes of the Campo Maior municipality; it had 3895 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 106,4 km².
