Coat of arms

The arms are Argent two wheels Azure over two heraldic fountains over two millstones Azure, each pair set in fess, on a bordure Gules seven billets Or. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll "VILA DE ANÇÃ" reading in black upper case letters.
Meaning:
There is an over all similarity in tinctures and arrangement with the national arms, and the 2×3 elements remind also the Castro family coat of arms. Apart from the obvious symbolism of the blue elements, the billets stand for locally quarried Ançã limestone.
António Martins-Tuválkin, 11 Apr 2010

Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário da República: III Série on 15 March 1996
