Coat of arms

[Meirinhos commune CoA] image by Sérgio Horta, 3 Mar 2016

Shield Azure on a bridge Argent masoned Sable issuant from a base wavy Argent charged with a fess wavy Azure a Merino-ram passant Argent and in chief two almond tree flowers Argent emphasized Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "MEIRINHOS".
Meaning:
The word "meirinho" means approximately the same as "bailiff"; this meaning seems absent from the arms. The blazon in Portuguese says, the animal is a "Merino-ram ", thus a special race of sheep, famous for ist wool. It can't be confirmed that "Meirinho " might be an ancient form of "Merino " , but the words surely sound similar and therefore, even if the arms are not canting, they are surely punning.
