Coat of arms

Shield Vert with base wavy of Argent and Azure, in chief a 5-point star Or, flanked by two stags forcene respectant Argent with antlers Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "PÓVOA DE CERVÃES".
Meaning:
The name is derived from "popula" and "Villa Servandici", the former meaning "settlement" (Port.: "póvoa"), the latter meaning "estate of Servando". The local tradition had however an other explanation. It is told that there had been hermitage in the local forests, related to Our Lady of Cervães, which became Our Lady of Cervas (= Our Lady of the Hinds). Although being stags, the deer and the star seem to allude to St. Mary.
