    Coat of Arms

Shield Argent between two pine trees Vert and trunked and fructed Sable two swallows set in pale flying downwards the upper one dexterwards and the bottom one sinisterwards, on central chief a bee displayed of Or and Sable. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "VILA NOVA DE POIARES".
    Meaning:
The bee on the arms stands for the local silk production (if I recall correct), and the pine trees refer to the hardly original local abundance of them. No idea about the swallows.
