About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on afield quartered of blue and white.

Coat of arms

Shield Argent, two stacks of planks of cork oak Gules lined Sable and fixed Or, set in fess, in chief a Marian crown Azure, in base a cogwheel Gules. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "SANTA MARIA DE LAMAS".
Meaning:
The crown is representing St. Mary of Lamas, name giver of the commune and local patron saint. The stacks are representing the local cork (Port.: cortiça) museum and are reminding on the fact that in the commune vats had been made for the wineries of Porto. The commune is the seat of Associação dos Industriais Exportadores de Cortiça, and Centro Tecnológico da Cortiça. The cogwheel is representing local industries.
