Shield Azure, a bend wavy Argent, charged with two bendlets wavy Azure, in sinister chief an eradicated tree Or leaved Argent, probably an ash tree, in dexter base a watermill's wheel Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "FORNELO - VILA DO CONDE.

Fornelo was one of the pre-2013 communes of Vila do Conde Municipality; it had 1392 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 6,3 km².

Coat of Arms

Shield Purpure, an abbot´s crozier Or in pale tied by a scarf Argent, flanked by two corn cobs Or leafed Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and short white scroll, in Bérnard Guedes style, with inscription in black capitals "VAIRÃO".
Meaning:
The crozier is representing the secularised Monastery of Vairão, better known as Monastery of St. Benedict, whose image is displayed on an azulejo (a tile of blue and white) at the front door. The wheat ears are alluding to the rural character of the commune.
