About the flag

"Associação Naval 1º de Mai" (something like "Naval Association 1st May"), "Naval" for short, is a Portuguese sport club, seated in Figueira da Foz. It was founded in 1893 by local factory workers (hence the name) and it specialized early in water sports ("naval" in Portuguese refers to sea shipping in general, not only to military activities), mainly rowing, and later on become somewhat noted for soccer too (it plays in the Portuguese 1st League since 2005).
The club's flag is triangular, white with a green cross throughout and offset to the hoist, charged on its center with a tangent white disc and on this a red anchor with black rope. Green cross on white is not a unique design for Portuguese sport flags , which can be mistaken for a Portuguese Navy personal rank flag, which are though later than 1910 .

Emblem

This flag shares elements with the club's emblem (I cannot say which came first), which is a Latin cross patty, green and void (a variation of the Christ Knights' Order cross, a non-official national symbol), charged on its centre with a white disc fimbriated red and charged with a black anchor and over all a a pair of black oars crossed per saltire on the cross' centre.
