Presentation of SLS

The Slovenian People's Party (Slovenska ljudska stranka, SLS) is a center-right political party with quite a lengthy history. It considers itself the sucessor of the Catholic National Party, founded in 1892; after a name change to All-Slovenian People's Party (Vseslovenska ljudska stranka) in 1905, the current name was adopted in 1920. It was a significant player in the politics of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, banned under King Alexander and during and after the war, and operated in exile in the USA. Refounded in May 1988 as the Slovenian Peasant Union (Slovenska kmečka zveza), it added "-People's Party" in 1990 to change its name to SKZ-LS (Slovenska kmečka zveza-Ljudska stranka), and to the current SLS on 27 June 1992. In 2000 it merged with the Slovene Christian Democrats (Slovenski krščanski demokrati) to form SLS+SKD, but has since reverted to only SLS.
Its ideology is centrist, with Christian-democratic leanings; on the European level it is an EPP affliliate.

In the 2008 parliamentary elections SLS ran in an odd coalition with the more left-green Party of the Youth of Slovenia (SMS) and jointly captured 5 of 88 Assembly seats, with 54,809 votes or 5.21% of the total.

Flag of SLS

The flag of SLS is blue, with large letters "SLS.", the "L" and period white, the "S"'s green. Below is placed the party's name in white.
The party monthly Odmev, December 2008, shows the flag on p. 7 (though only very partially), more clearly on p. 11 (in placard form), and as a table flag on p. 25.

Emblem of SLS

The party's Statutes mention the emblem (but not the flag) in Article 3, as follows:

The symbol of the party is the acronym "SLS" in bold capital letters in green and blue colors, with a blue period; and with a subscript in black lowercase letters reading "Slovenian People's Party".
