Overview

The 15 April 2013 issue of The New Yorker included an article by Susan Faludi, "Death of a Revolutionary," about the passing of a pioneer 1960s feminist. It featured a photo of an Equal Rights Amendment ratification rally from the mid-1970s: the participants flew a modified US flag with 32 stars spelling out the letters "ERA".

The picture was not dated, but the number of stars might represent the number of states that had ratified the amendment at the time (it eventually reached 35, but 38 were necessary for passage.)
