Description of the flag

The University of Virginia is located in the city of Charlottesville in central Virginia. Founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819, the University is renowned for its historic foundations and student-run honor code, and is the only US collegiate World Heritage Site, designated in 1987. The University's sports teams are nicknamed the Cavaliers in honor of the historical "Virginia Cavaliers," a group of royalist supporters from the colony of Virginia during the English Civil War. The school's colors are Navy blue and orange, and the school's sports teams currently use a logo that incorporates a white capital "V" outlined in orange above a pair of orange crossed swords. This logo appears on a Navy blue field as the flag of the University of Virginia. Originally used to represent just the school's sports teams, the flag is now used to represent the entire University and can be found in any number of photographs online.
