Harzgerode Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, issuant from base a mount Vert, charged with hammer and mallet Argent, issuant from mount a red city gate, masoned Sable with cone roof Azure topped by a ball Or, flanked by a pine at dexter and a linden at sinister, both Vert and issuant from mount.
Meaning:
Harzgerode gained city rights in 1338. The city gate is a modification of the castle, which had been in the historical arms, known fom seals since 1377. The castle had three towers, a portcullis Sable, and was charged with the historical shield of Anhalt, to which the city belonged. Mount and trees in the current arms probably are referring to the location within the Harz Forest. Hammer and mallet are reminding on the fact that the mining of silver had been an important business line since the 16th century. Harzgerode had also been seat of a mining authority from 1694 to 1854, when mining declined in the area. The arms were approved on 19 November 2010 by the county administration.
