Hergatz Coat of Arms

Shield Gules chapé embowed Argent, in base a fleur-de-lis Argent, in dexter chief a griffin's claw Sable, in sinister chief a bend Sable.
Meaning:
Hergatz was established in 1978 by a merger of Maria-Thann and Wohmbrechts. The claw is taken from the family arms of the Lords of Wohmbrechts, who had been manorial lords in the namesake village since 1395. Castle and bailiwick were acquired by the Free Imperial City of Wangen in the 16th century. The city before had gained the high level cognisance from the Counts of Montfort. Between 1631 and 1803 the city had gained the complete sovereignty over the village. The fleur-de-lis is taken from the arms of the city. The bend is taken from the arms of the Knights of Sürgenstein, who owned Maria-Thann partially since the middle of the 14th century.
