Groitzsch Coat of Arms

Shield Gules a horse passant Argent armour-plated and saddled Or.
Meaning:
In 1030 the German King donated a castle on the bank of the Elster River to the Margraves of Meißen, which was acquired by Count Wiprecht of Groitzsch in 1073. He built a new castle with towers and chapel north of the old castle in 1080. The area was bequeathed to the Wettin kin in 1144. Before 1200 the margraves founded a city as counterbalance of the city of Pegau. The arms are based on the personal arms of Wiprecht of Groitzsch.
