Zwenkau Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, at sinister a saint statant, nimbed Or, dressed Azure, holding a palm frond Vert by his sinister hand and leaning on a gridiron Sable by his dexter hand.
Meaning:
A local castle was donated by the German king to the Bishopric of Merseburg in 974, to which it belonged, until the bishopric was dissolved in 1561. At the beginning of the 12th century a market town developed, which gained city rights in 1475. The saint is St. Lawrence, the local patron saint. The oldest seal from the 15th century displayed the instrument of his torture, the gridiron, alone. The image of the saint himself was added in the 17th century.
