Großwallstadt Coat of Arms

Shield Gules a double crown Or surrounding an initial "W" Argent.
Meaning:
The arms are based on a local symbol from 1755, conveyed and displayed on the façade of the local church. Crown and initial are referring to the former name "Kunigiswalstad" (Latin: Walstad regis) in times of the Carolingian dynasty. It had been a Roman estate before. The name was based on the size and as a distinguishing mark to the town of Kleinwallstadt or Bischofwallstadt (Latin: Walstad episcopi) on the other bank of the Main River belonging to the Archbishop of Mainz. Silver and red are the tinctures of the archbishopric.
