Siebenlehn Coat of Arms

Shield Or a fess embattled Gules, over all a lion rampant Sable, armed and tongued Gules.
Meaning:
Siebenlehn, what means "seven fiefdoms", was established as a mining city on the area of two different villages around 1370. Silver and copper mining had started in 1346. In 1388 it was called an open city and market. The city belonged to the Margraviate of Meißen and since 1500 to the Cistercian Altzella Monastery. Council and mayor, who also held the low level cognisance, existed since the 16th century. Mining declined since the 17th century. Instead crafts developed, especially bakers and shoemakers, the latter held one third of the complete population in 1783. The city gained proper arms probably on occasion of its foundation in the 14th century. The arms had been the greater arms of the margraves including the helmet and crest, known as pagan´s torso or jew´s torso. The arms were revised in 1894 and reduced to the lesser arms, since then displaying the embattled fess as a distinguishing mark.
