Alfeld Coat of Arms

Shield parted by a pallet wavy Azure, at dexter Sable a demi-lion issuant Or armed Sable, at sinister bendy of six of Gules and Argent.
Meaning:
The Alfelder Bach, the local creek, symbolised by the blue pallet wavy, had been the border between two territories between 1504 and 1803. He separated the Free Imperial City of Nürnberg, represented by the sinister half, from the Palatinate and the Duchy of Pfalz-Sulzbach, represented by the demi-lion, a differentiation of the Palatine arms, here looking like a sock puppet.
