Grassau Coat of Arms

Shield Argent an impending panther head Azure spitting fire Gules, in base a meadow Vert with two grass stalks issuant of the same.
Meaning:
Before the area was acquired by the Palatine Counts (of Rhine) in 1248, the region was ruled by the Counts of Ortenburg-Kraiburg from the Spanheim kin. They died out in 1140. The head is a differentiation of the family arms of the counts, which displayed a blue rampant panther, which was included into the Bavarian coat of arms in 1950. The meadow (German: Au) and the stalks of grass together are canting elements. The basic tinctures are those of the Wittelsbach kin, rulers of the area since 1270. In 1965 Grassau gained the status of a market town.
