Description of the flag

The Tumbes flag shows a stylized sun (an important symbol in Peru’s earlier flags) as a golden yellow SW quadrant sun disc on the upper hoist from which extend four equal width rays golden yellow: one along the hoist, another along the upper edge of the flag, another along the diagonal of the flag, and the last linking to the midpoint of the lower edge of the flag; the two middle rays enclose a green area, whereas the remaining background is dark blue. On the sun disc the word "Tumbes" set in black narrow sans-serif capitals along a curved line parallel to the edge of the sic, and overall horizontally centered and overlapping the golden yellow diagonal, the shield of the local coat of arms, its height about 1/3rd of the flag’s height. Said shield includes a yellow bordure with black letters:
