Presentation of Tabor

The municipality of Tabor (1,646 inhabitants in 2016, 3,480 ha) was formed in 1998 by separation from Žalec. The name of the main settlement after which the municipality is also named - Tabor (469 inh.) - comes from the generic term tabor, meaning "a fortified encircling wall". The wall after which it is named was built around around St. George's church as a protection against Turkish raids.
There was another municipality named Tabor, part of the Maribor Civic Municipality Assembly until 1995, and subsequently incorporated into Maribor Civic Municipality.
