The former flag of Zara is white with the municipality's former emblem. An earlier flag of Zara (photo) was white with the municipality's earlier emblem."Belediyesi" means "Municipality".

The former emblem of Zara was unveiled on 4 October 2016.
The emblem features the memorial of Zara garrison surmounted by the Turkish flag, a Seljuk double-headed eagle, the Beydağı and Kösedağı mountains, and the bridge over river Kızılırmak. The honeycomb background recalls honey production.
