The 1987 flag was designed free-of-charge by a company called Creative Ideas
Advertising, and only 8 of these flags were produced for a cost of 284 US
Dollars.
This flag is most likely no longer current as of 2024 due to the
creation of new Municipalities in Miami-Dade County and the adoption of a new
seal.

According to articles published by The Miami News on October 7th, 1986 and
The Miami Herald on January 1st, 1987, a flag of Sweetwater was first proposed
in 1986 for use at a public display of municipal flags at the Dade County Youth
Fair - a display which no longer exists as of 2024 - and was originally
intended to mimic the Florida state flag, said Mayor Isidoro Cuevas.
His
proposal consisted of a white field with the old city seal in the middle, with
diagonal blue and red bars forming a saltire behind the seal; a proposal that
would later be replaced in 1987 by a flag that consisted of a red border, a
white field, and the city seal surrounded by 26 blue stars; representing the
amount of municipalities in Miami-Dade County at that time. The seal consisted
of a bridge over the Tamiami Canal with a palm tree and sunrise.
