Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, in sinister canton fretty of Argent and Sable, a knight mounted on a horse passant Argent, wearing armour Or with sword, lance and shield Argent, the latter charged with a throughout cross Sable.
Meaning:
The knight is a representation of St. Gangulphus, the local patron saint, who had been displayed before on local seals. The canton is referring to the local production of paper and parchment.

Petriroda Coat of Arms

Shield Azure a lion rampant Argent, crowned and armed Or, tongied Gules, holding a spade Or in pale by his forepaws, dexter flanch Argent charged with a bulrush proper.
Meaning:
The arms are based on a local seal. The lion is taken from the family arms of the Counts of Gleichen, who bought the village in 1435. Bulrush and spade are referring to the Kranichmoor marshlands, in the past a base for the depletion of peat.
