The 2018 Municipality Development Plan reads "...the municipality's flag was designed by Rubén Martínez González in 2017 on the occasion of the commemoration of the 78th anniversary of the founding of the Municipality, and in the framework of the fifteenth anniversary of the creation of the official coat of arms, in 2017 the flag was designed with the national colors, which represented: green, the countryside, the main economic engine of the municipality; white represents the ideals of the founders of the municipality; red, the blood spilled on the Cuesta de Guanoro Battle of 2 November 1864. It should be noted that this flag was never official, since it was not approved by the city council in office when it was proposed.
